Community-driven awards celebrate the best in Drupal achievements

AUSTIN, TEXAS, February 27, 2013– Veteran Drupal community members, including Volacci, Door3 and Unleashed Technologies, announce the launch of the second annual Blue Drop Awards.  Created in 2012, Blue Drop Awards is an independent, community-nominated, event that aims to publicly recognize the excellent individuals, companies and projects that have pushed the limits and maximized the capabilities of the open-source content management system, Drupal.

Blue Drop Awards Voting Started

Voting has commenced for the Blue Drop Awards! Voting will continue until April 6th at midnight. The winners of each category will be announced on April 10th as well as the grand puba, the Best Drupal Website of 2012.

Take a minute to browse through the 8 categories and place your vote for your favorite in each section.

Find a site that you think is really awesome? Send out a tweet to your followers, a blast on Facebook, write a blog about why that particular site deserves to win, or send an e-mail to your friends and bribe them into voting for your favorite site.

Blue Drop Awards Nominations Finalized

Between 2/21 and 3/22 the Blue Drop Awards accepted 213 nominations. Obviously, the last 12 months have been incredibly busy year for the Drupal community.

The nominations committee has been incredibly busy reviewing all of the submissions. And I must say, there are a lot of gorgeous, nay-unbelievable, websites that have been created over the last year.

We had 8 categories for nominations this year. 

  • Best Enterprise Website: 10 nominations.
  • Best Business Website: 50 nominations.
  • Best Marketplace Website: 21 nominations.
  • Best Social Website: 20 nominations.
  • Best Non-Profit/Education Website:

First Badge seen in the wild!

I was looking through some of the nominated websites this morning when I stumbled across the Blue Drop Awards badge on Salon Thairapy's website. Cool! 

To be honest, I haven't been actively looking BUT it is kind of cool to see.

Rule Change Proposed & Finalized

[Edit: After little comment from the community, and that comment in favor, we've decided to make the rule changes proposed below. Thank you for your support!]

As you can see from our 2012 budget, we have plans to do a lot of marketing for Drupal in the coming year. That means that we need the financial support from companies in the Drupal community who want to see this work done. Many have expressed that they wish to help by sponsoring but they also want to enter the contest.
